This is a FYI.... Beavercreek asked these questions of DEW and their responses follow each question... We thought all districts might be interested in this...
Thank you for your questions. Please see the answers below:
Is there a cutoff date in which the Tier 1 DS is no longer required to be administered for newly enrolling students (similar to the 30 day rule for Reading Diagnostic)?
- No, there is no cutoff date.
Can districts use Tier 1 DS results from a previous Ohio public school for newly enrolling students?
- A district or school is not required to administer a tier one dyslexia screening measure to a student in grades K-6 who transfers into the district or school midyear if the student's records indicate a screening was administered to the student by the district or school from which the student transferred during that year.
If so, does Progress Monitoring follow the student?
- This would be at the discretion of the district.
For example, if the student completed 3 weeks of progress monitoring at the previous school, would the student only need 3 weeks after enrolling in the new school?
- This would be a district decision based on the data received from the previous district and how it aligns with their progress monitoring tool.
- If a Tier 1 DS is administered to a newly enrolling student and progress monitoring is required but the district doesn't have 6 weeks remaining in the school year, how should that be handled? Would progress monitoring carry over into the next school year?
- Yes, the progress monitoring could be carried over to the next school year.
Hope this helps! If you have additional questions, please reopen this ticket.
Thanks,
Brad Hauser
