Good afternoon,
Senate Bill 29, otherwise known as the "Education Record and Student Privacy Bill,"  is expected to have significant impact on school districts' operations:

  1.  The Bill establishes safeguards and required contractual provisions for contracts between public school districts and technology vendors.
  2.  The Bill prohibits public school districts from accessing or monitoring various types of data collected by its technology -except in specific circumstances.
MVECA, in conjunction with the MCOECN, is evaluating the impact of this legislation on our members.  Attached you will find information from the MC's attorney on SB 29, along with some sample parent letters that may be of value to schools as they attempt to comply with the notification requirements in the bill.  Please note that the attached slides and information are the work output of the MC's attorneys and may not completely agree with your district's analysis and legal counsel.  Please review and let me know if you would like to discuss further.  We will forward additional information and resources as they become available.
