<div dir="ltr">Newbury High School has introduced a Senior Capstone course.  <span style="background-color:transparent;color:rgb(0,0,0);font-family:Arial;white-space:pre-wrap">The Capstone Leadership Class helps prepare seniors for the real world focusing on topics such as personal finance, college and career readiness, interviewing and other professional skills, and other topics to prepare them for life after high school. Part of this course is to complete a Capstone Leadership Project.</span><div><span id="gmail-docs-internal-guid-88ff29a2-6643-d939-c5e7-78b3ddc11640"><br><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="font-family:Arial;color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap">The Capstone Leadership Project involves the seniors volunteering their time for a non profit organization as an individual or with a partner. The expectations of this project include:</span></p><br><ol style="margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type:decimal;font-family:Arial;color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre"><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap">Research at least three local non profit organizations that the students will be interested volunteering their time with.</span></p></li><li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type:decimal;font-family:Arial;color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre"><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap">Write a proposal covering why they chose these organizations and what they would like to do for them.</span></p></li><li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type:decimal;font-family:Arial;color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre"><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap">Conference with instructor to make a decision on an organization and what they think the best way to help out would be.</span></p></li><li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type:decimal;font-family:Arial;color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre"><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap">Write a professional letter to the head of the organization introducing themselves, the capstone class/project, and the fact they would like to volunteer their time with their organization.</span></p></li><li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type:decimal;font-family:Arial;color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre"><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap">Come up with a plan with the organization they choose as to how they can best serve the organization with their volunteer hours and submit the final plan to the teacher.</span></p></li><li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type:decimal;font-family:Arial;color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre"><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap">Log a minimum of 25 hours with the organization.</span></p></li><li dir="ltr" style="list-style-type:decimal;font-family:Arial;color:rgb(0,0,0);background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre"><p dir="ltr" style="line-height:1.38;margin-top:0pt;margin-bottom:0pt"><span style="background-color:transparent;font-variant-numeric:normal;font-variant-east-asian:normal;vertical-align:baseline;white-space:pre-wrap">Write a 2 page reflection paper regarding their experience with the organization.</span></
