[Mail_treas] Donations and Lunch Accounts

Good afternoon!  We have some parents and community organization wanting to donate money to our food service program to be used to pay off the amounts owed by students.  The School District has a policy limiting the amount of lunch that can be charged but the policy does not address money donated to pay off amounts owed by students.  Does anyone have a policy, administrative guideline and/or procedures on how to select which students’ balance are paid off?

Rick, the question has come up from a few parents if they can donate money to pay for kids that do not have lunch money or to pay off their balances.  Do you have any other districts that you know of that take these donations and have a written procedure on how this is handled?  I am interested in how the student's who receive the money is determined if there is not enough to pay off all balances?  Who is responsible for maintaining this account and how is it handled?  Any suggestions would be appreciated as we don't want to turn people away.  ginger
