[Mail_treas] Cyber Alert

Good morning!
The Center for Internet Security has released a recent cyber alert ahead of election day that is relevant not only to boards of election, but also to the greater state and local government landscape to include all public agencies.  Over the past two months, significant numbers of activities have been observed that include "website defacement, denial of service, phishing and malspam, brute force attempts, election website scanning, suspected account compromise, suspicious text messages, and typosquatting. The most prevalent of these were phishing attempts and emails containing malicious attachments. These emails included sextortion attempts, credential harvesting campaigns, and fraudulent attachments attempting to distribute Emotet or other malicious software."
All public organizations and agencies should be on high alert.  Please make sure your email users are aware of the threats and anti-malware implementations are fully patched and up-to-date.  Careless clicks on email links and attachments continue to be our most significant vulnerability.
