[Mail_treas] ALERT: payroll scams

Good morning,
We are seeing a significant increase in the number of payroll scams being introduced to school district payroll departments.  The scams involve using either a high jacked school email account or a personal email account named for a school district employee.  Scammers send information from the compromised account into the school's payroll department asking for direct deposit changes.

*         Please do not process payroll changes without direct confirmation from the employee.

*         Please enable multi-factor authentication on all staff email accounts.

*         Please ensure password complexity rules are in place for staff accounts.

*         Please implement some sort of cyber security awareness training so that district employees are fully aware of these types of scams.
