SSA/BSO has released their first News Letter.  You may already be receiving this, but I wanted to bring it to your attention and that there is an opportunity to register for a virtual session to provide information about how the new AUTHORIZATION PROCESS is going to work in BSO.  The session is tomorrow, Friday January 9, 2026 from 1 – 2 pm  See registration link in red below.

Welcome to our first issue! We value your time and will only send this newsletter when there are important wage reporting topics or updates to the W-2/W-3 reporting requirements.

02/20/2026 - Deadline to file Tax Year 2025 Wage reports with Social Security.

New wage reporting application requirements

Starting 2025 Tax Year, the following Employer Information fields (RE/RCE record) are required for electronic submissions. Submissions will be returned if any of these fields are left blank:

  *   Contact Name
  *   Contact Email Address
  *   Contact Phone Number
  *   Employer Name
  *   Employer Address

New BSO Authorization Pilot Opportunity

Social Security is piloting a new authorization process for BSO that makes it easier for business entities to fully manage user access, while streamlining and improving the authorization experience. To be eligible, you must be a Responsible Entity Officer (REO) for the entity you are registering or a delegated user for your company. BSO Access

To access employer services, you must sign in using either an ID.me or Login.gov account.

You can access BSO in one of two ways:

  1.  Select the "Account" link at the top right corner of www.ssa.gov/employer<https://links-2.govdelivery.com/CL0/http:%2F%2Fwww.ssa.gov%2Femployer%3Futm_medium=email%26utm_source=govdelivery/1/0101019b9eef867b-6d3012d7-5e65-43bb-8a67-d3769b765569-000000/9lcLzRoOoPRvR2Vym7-NG6vstyH4m-OWoao04wNLBEk=439>.
  2. Note: If you already have and ID.me or Login.gov account, you do not need to create another one.

Do you have an Individual TaxPayer identification Number (ITIN) or a passport? You can still use BSO for wage reporting.

With ID.me, Social Security now accepts the Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) or passport as an alternative to an SSN.
