<p class="MsoNormal">I want to make sure everyone is aware that social engineering and phishing attempts are continuing in the region. One district alerted us today that another attempt was made to change routing and account information for direct deposits
for a district administrator using phishing and social engineering tactics.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">In another instance, a district in Ohio was recently robbed of over $4 million dollars after they accepted a call from someone claiming to represent a bank. The caller was able to spoof caller ID information, websites, and had ample information
about employees in the district, their accounts, and past banking activities. This all occurred on the heels of a very sophisticated malware infection which accumulated all the data needed for the caller to completely fool the district. Most of the money
was recovered due to the fast action of the FBI.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Please do not accept calls from anyone claiming to represent your bank, even if the caller ID information looks correct. If you receive such a call, hang up and call the bank directly to confirm the validity of any troubleshooting requests
or account changes. Make sure you have up-to-date malware protection and that your local users are receiving recurring cyber awareness training and remain vigilant at all times.<o:p></o:p></p>
