Good Morning and Happy Friday All!
This is a reminder for districts to begin the process of obtaining their new Transmitter Control Code (TCC) for the IRS Information Returns Intake System (IRIS).
As discussed in our 2025 Calendar Year-End and Fiscal-Year End presentations, the IRS FIRE system will retire at the end of tax year 2026, with the new IRIS system being used for the 2027 filing season. Each district will need to obtain a new IRIS TCC. Your existing FIRE TCC cannot be used for the new IRIS system. IRIS TCCs will begin with the letter "D."
Important Update Regarding A2A Filing
This past week, I attended the OEDSA conference and had the opportunity to meet with SSDT. We discussed the latest progress SSDT has made with the IRS regarding the new IRIS system.
SSDT has been working with the IRS to develop a process that will allow districts to submit their 1099 file directly to IRIS using the A2A (Application-to-Application) method. SSDT is working toward becoming an approved third-party vendor for this process.
SSDT recently tested files with the IRS, and the testing was successful.
When you complete the IRS application for your new TCC, you will be asked whether you need a TCC for:

  *   A2A (Application-to-Application)
  *   IRIS Portal
These are two separate TCCs, and a TCC issued for one method cannot be used or switched to the other method.
Districts can apply for both TCCs if they would like to have both options available.
What Does This Mean for Your District?
The A2A option is expected to be the easiest method for districts using USAS, as SSDT is working toward providing a file that can be submitted directly to IRIS through the A2A process.
If a district chooses to use the IRIS Portal instead, the filing process will be much more manual. The A2A portal itself does not allow you to simply take the file generated from USAS and upload it. Instead, the district would need to manually enter/create the 1099 information using the vendor grid, with a limit of 100 forms per upload.
For this reason, we recommend that districts apply for the A2A TCC when completing the new IRIS TCC application. You may also apply for the Portal TCC if you would like to maintain both options.
Action Needed
If you have not already done so, please begin the process of applying for your new IRIS TCC.<https://www.irs.gov/tax-professionals/iris-application-for-tcc>
Important: Your current FIRE TCC will not carry over to IRIS. A new TCC is required for the 2027 filing season.
We wanted to share this latest information from SSDT so districts can plan ahead and select the appropriate filing method when applying for their new TCC.
Additional information and the IRS application for the new TCC can be found through the IRS Information Returns Intake System (IRIS).
Thank you!
