Good afternoon!
I’m sure everyone received the message below from Ed Weisenbach at ODE. However, I just want to make sure that all MVECA districts that have not consumed their Erate Category 2 budgets are aware that this is the last funding year of the five year cycle for Category 2. We have no idea what will happen after next funding year with Erate.
If you need network upgrades, wiring, wireless hardware, UPS protection, etc., this Erate cycle is it. Please be sure to file your 470s early. Also, while we do our best to watch all the 470 filings of our members, we may miss something. Please be sure to give us a heads up if you have a 470 out there that MVECA hasn’t responded to. We want to make sure you get the best pricing available!
Please contact me anytime with questions.
Thanks
Thor

Subject: E-Rate Category 2 Funding Opportunity

Dear District Technology Leaders:

In 2015, as part of E-Rate Modernization Order, the FCC made $150 per student of funding for Wi-Fi and internal connections upgrades available over five years. This Category 2 funding is only guaranteed through 2019 so the Governor’s Office and the Ohio Department of Education are again collaborating with EducationSuperHighway, the Management Council of the Ohio Education Computer Network (MC-OECN), the Information Technology Centers (ITCs), and our state E-Rate Coordinator to provide districts with a variety of resources to help school district technology leaders access these funds.

The free resources available to you include:

● Lorrie Germann, our state E-Rate Coordinator, is available to respond to questions and provide assistance in all phases of the E-Rate application process. She can be reached at 740-253-1153 or by e-mail at lorrie.germann at education.ohio.gov<mailto:lorrie.germann at education.ohio.gov> .

● EducationSuperHighway<https://www.educationsuperhighway.org/> will be offering a series of E-rate Category 2 webinars beginning September 19. Register<https://www.educationsuperhighway.org/webinars/> for more information. You can also schedule a brief call<https://calendly.com/ohio-team/district-call> with Greer Ahlquist, who is EducationSuperHighway’s team lead in Ohio, or email her at greer at educationsuperhighway.org<mailto:greer at educationsuperhighway.org> .

● The Management Council-Ohio Education Computer Network (MC-OECN) and your ITC are available to provide further counsel and assistance on a wide range of connectivity topics. A listing of ITCs and related contact info are available here<http://www.mcoecn.org/about-the-mcoecn/>. Technical resources through the Management Council are available by contacting Scott Gaughan, gaughan at mcoecn.org<mailto:gaughan at mcoecn.org> .

We look forward to working with you to take advantage of this funding opportunity.

Kind Regards,
Ed
