[Tech-l] IMPORTANT: Student Data Collection Needed

Good Afternoon!
As you may already know, there will likely be additional funding coming to schools to promote equity and support remote learning opportunities.  In order to make decisions now and in the future about how this money will be used, ODE leadership and the Governor's Innovate Ohio and Broadband Ohio initiatives are seeking to develop a highly accurate map of student Internet access in Ohio.  The only information needed is home address data - no names, no PII.  We need two questions answered:

1.      Do students at this address have home Internet Connectivity?

2.      Do students at this address have home access to a device to connect to the Internet?
To that end we are seeking your expedited assistance to develop this map.
MVECA and the state software support team have created, in your student information system, two custom fields.  The first one is called "Student Internet Connectivity" and the default content is "not selected."  The second field is called "Student Device Access" and again the default content is "not selected."  The two remaining options for each field are "Yes" and "No."  We are asking you to select "yes" or "no" for all of your students for whom you know this status.
Fortunately, we DO have a process by which you can avoid accessing the "StudentInformation/SIS/Student/Misc. Data" tab on each student record to update these fields.  Within the next 24 hours, the EMIS contact for each district will receive a spreadsheet that can be updated and returned to MVECA.  Once we have your data, we will import it into StudentInformation and execute the collection for all members on May 29th.  We understand that this data may be known only to building principals or teachers, but we are asking EMIS contacts to facilitate this process by helping the appropriate district personnel share any data they may have.
We fully understand that this data may be difficult to obtain or may take some time to perfect.  We will be leaving the Internet and device data field in StudentInformation on a continuing basis so that we can refine the data over time.  We ask that each district make a best effort at this initial collection and return completed spreadsheets before May 28th at 3:00 p.m.
