Subject: [dla] Community Anchor Program Announces New Distance Learning Scholarship Program
Good afternoon, OhioDLA members:
I would like to pass along an opportunity that our K-12 schools could benefit from. This is a scholarship program that provides funds for teachers and schools to receive content provider programming. All Ohio schools which connect through an ITC meet the Internet2 connectivity requirement.
Thanks very much to Laura Bryson at BEMC for finding this opportunity and notifying our Board!
The Internet2 Community Anchor Program (CAP) is excited to announce that it has created a distance learning scholarship program to give K-12 teachers free, one-on-one distance learning programs for their class through the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration<http://www.cilc.org/> (CILC). Any teacher from a school that is connected via a state or regional research and education network<https://internet2.edu/community/membership/research-and-education-networks-membership/> can apply to use the scholarship to pay for a one-on-one distance learning class from the CILC. Teachers can apply for the scholarship regardless of whether their school is holding in-person classes or distance learning.
Courses from the CILC expand opportunities for students to interact and learn live from any of the CILC’s 200 content providers from around the world. Teachers can choose from any of the over 1,900 professionally-delivered programs offered, all of which have been evaluated by teachers and can be sorted by topic or by recommendation. Students can participate in experiences like dissecting a sheep’s brain<https://www.cilc.org/ContentProvider/Program.aspx?id=1082> to sharpen observation and analysis skills with experts from Adventures In Medicine & Science (AIMS) Program of Saint Louis University or learn about Aztec art, myths, and writing systems<https://www.cilc.org/ContentProvider/Program.aspx?id=504> from the Cleveland Museum of Art, without ever leaving their classroom.
The scholarship application<https://forms.gle/ZHKhUGqQtnMpfoy97> is open. CAP will review applications, verify eligibility, and award scholarships on a rolling basis, with the last day to submit an application being Friday, November 20. Scholarship recipients will be chosen at Internet2’s sole discretion. As scholarships are awarded, teachers will be notified and guided through the process of purchasing their courses. Once classrooms have completed their CILC program, CAP will interview teachers to learn about their experiences and share their stories via a series of blog posts.
For more information, please review the specific criteria below or email Stephanie Stenberg<mailto:sstenberg at internet2.edu>.
Criteria:
● Applicants must complete a scholarship application form.
● As part of the application, applicants must select a distance learning class at the Center for Interactive Learning and Collaboration website.
● Applicants’ school must be connected to the Internet2 network via their state or regional research and education network. We understand that teachers may not know their school district’s internet provider, so we will independently verify whether applicants are from connected networks.
● Applicants must agree to allow CAP to use their name and school name in promotional material and must agree to work with CAP on a follow-up story or blog post.
Deadline:
Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. The last day to submit a scholarship application is Friday, November 20.
