[Mail_treas] Question - Sick Leave Accumulation

Good Afternoon,
I have employee’s, as most of us do, that have reached the maximum
accumulated sick leave allowed by our negotiated agreement.
Our practice has been that when an employee reaches the maximum, they no
longer accumulate sick leave, unless a day is taken. At which time the
employee is charged for a sick leave day and then the following month,
earns the day back.
A question has been raised that employee’s should still be able to
accumulate 1.25 days per month, as allowed by ORC (however remembering that
ORC allows for max accumulation of 120 days). A solution that has been
proposed is to allow the employee to accumulate sick leave beyond the
negotiated agreement maximum (for an additional 15 days per year) and then
at the end of the school year, wipe out any excess days to keep the
employee’s accumulated balance as per the negotiated agreement maximum.
How does your district handle this?
Hope you all have a safe, and Happy New Year.
