[Mail_treas] received from an administrator in my district

Thanks to everyone so far! I wanted all your opinions since this needed to be something that was done in other districts to illustrate that we aren't the "Lone Rangers".
I thought that I would give more clarification. The individuals in our office have always been referred to as clerks, not secretaries. We are not union as far as our staff and these individuals work with payroll, benefits, account payable, all insurances, pension plans, fixed assets maintenance, staff emis, etc. The list goes on and on. They are, however, not secretarial in nature. There are some 260 day secretaries in the district besides our office.
I was a CPA in public practice for many years prior to my working as a Treasurer. I have a huge appreciation for the diligence needed and the tedious nature of what is required from our staff. I am in search of a replacement for someone in my office doing payroll and I am concerned as to whether my pay schedule will support their abilities. I am hopeful that our fringes will carry the day.
For some reason, the latest administration here undervalues the work done from my office. I sometimes think it is because we make things look easy.
Thanks again for your help.....if you have any other comments, they will be welcome.
Carla

Is this for a secretary in the treasurer's office or for someone doing payroll or accounts receivable/accounts payable?
Thank you,

I received this letter from an administrator in my district. I have my opinion on how to answer this but I would like to employ all your help. I think the variety of duties can be better summarized by a group of my colleagues rather than just putting my opinion out there. The district's salary schedule is $ 26,160 to $ 33,398 for workers in the Treasurer's office. They make more than the secretaries in the building and less than the custodian's starting salary. The Superintendent's secretary and the Emis coordinator do make more than these positions. These salary schedules have been in place for all my time here which has been 23 years plus and haven't been a point of contention until now.
"Several classified employees have brought to my attention the classified salary schedule and the fact that the secretaries in finance are paid more than secretaries in all other positions across the district. As I hear this, I want to respond appropriately, so I thought that I should ask you, so I understand. First, is this true and second, if it is true, what is the reasoning behind this?"
Thanks for your help!
Carla
