Good Morning!
In an effort to provide the highest quality of service, MVECA will be closely monitoring network performance and bandwidth utilization during the upcoming, online testing windows outlined below. So that we can accumulate the best information possible (to share with ODE) we would like to request that a designee from each district provide responses to the following four prompts as they pertain to your district and school buildings.
1. Identify the LEA's testing widow (testing start & end times, and assessment weeks)*, including the subject of test being delivered during this time, (i.e., Monday, Feb 16 - 9:00 am - 10:00 am Math, or Monday, March 2 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm - Math, ELA, Science, Social Studies.) The assessment subject is important as it determines whether the assessment vendor is Pearson or AIR. It will be important to know this, as it will help in understanding bandwidth consumption per device and vendor.
2. Identify the sites deployment model (Whole building/1:1 Model; Classroom Model; or Lab Model ) it is believed that an overwhelming portion of districts/buildings will use the Lab Model - mobile cart Labs would also fall into this model.
3. Identify the number of simultaneously active computing devices (desktops, laptops or tablets) that will be used for testing in the testing window. This number is equal to the total number of students in a building that can take an online assessment in the testing window at the same time. This data can be used to estimate (using vendor provided guidelines) expected total bandwidth consumption as compared to actual.
4. Identify whether the district's testing sites will or will not be using Proctor Caching for PARCC tests and where the Proctor Cache is located (ITC, District, Building, Testing Room). Note that proctor caching for Pearson is optional and that actual bandwidth consumption of cached Pearson assessments is expected to be one-tenth of un-cached content. Note that AIR assessments cannot be cached.
Once we have received this information from you, we will schedule monitoring activities that will allow us to get more precise measurements and data. This activity is purely optional, but we believe your participation will help us to ensure the effective delivery of test content possible and your participation will be greatly appreciated. Please forward this email to the person in your district that will be responsible for providing a response. Please send responses to noc at mveca.org<mailto:noc at mveca.org> at your earliest convenience.
Thank you,
Thor
