Good Afternoon Treasurers,

I had to get creative with my resources on this one. Here is a summary of the responses I received regarding effect on enrollment:

* Todd Puster, Treasurer/CFO @ Orange - "When I was at East Liverpool, it helped stabilize enrollment. They had a trend of decline previously."

* Dr. Dennis Kowalski (former Superintendent @ Strongsville) - In the 1990's Strongsville was a growing community and the enrollment grew from 5,800 to over 7,000 in the 17 years he was there.

* Dr. Charles Smialek, Supt @ Euclid -

o We experienced a pretty good increase (10-15%) in elementary enrollment when we opened the new elementary schools. This enrollment increase lasted approximately three years (you can still see the "bubble" moving through the progressive grade levels).

o However, the bubble has faded. K enrollment has declined by 3-5% each of the last four years, and this then translates into the same decrease in subsequent grades.

o We are hoping for another surge when we open our new secondary schools in 2020.

* Dr. Charles Keenan, Supt @ Maple Hts -

o We experienced a 2-3% decrease in enrollment prior to building all new buildings in the district. Over the 3 year period of completing construction there was about a 5% increase, then a leveling off and then back to a 2-3% decrease.

o In regard to staffing, we were able to make some reductions by going to fewer buildings in admin and related services, but we were cautious in minimally reducing our teaching staff numbers especially not in core content area. We did have to shift core teachers to keep consistent student/teacher ratios. You may be able to make reductions in elective areas with less buildings depending on your current student/teacher ratios in those areas and needing only one staff member per building based on need(ie. music, pe, art, French, etc.)

I hope this helps! Good luck to all who are currently go through a similar situation!

Subject: Enrollment Changes due to new facilities

Good Morning Everyone,

Elyria is currently undergoing construction on five new buildings plus a new athletic stadium. We have an ADM of 6,000+.

Would anyone who has gone through constructing new buildings be willing to share how much it affected their enrollment after the new buildings opened? Any trends during construction?

Thanks in advance!
